Waste Removal Project in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, Suspended Due to Lack of Funding
2026/10/01
AlFajr Palestinian Youth Association (FPYA) announced the suspension of its solid waste collection and removal project serving displacement sites in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, due to a halt in funding. The suspension threatens to cause waste accumulation around displaced families’ living areas and worsen health and environmental risks.
The project served approximately 140,000 people and collected and removed nearly 659 tonnes of waste each month, providing an essential service to protect displaced families’ health and maintain the cleanliness of displacement sites and their surroundings.
The Association stressed that suspending this vital service increases the risk of insect and rodent infestations and deteriorating sanitary conditions at displacement sites. It called on partners and donors to provide the support needed to resume the project and ensure its continuity.
