Al-Fajr Palestinian Youth Association Implements a Solar Energy Project to Enhance Water Production in Khan Younis
2026/07/21
With support from Langtaa Songtaa for Relief and under the supervision of Al-Rahma Charitable Society for Rehabilitation, Al-Fajr Palestinian Youth Association implemented a project to increase the operational capacity of a solar energy system powering a groundwater well and a water desalination unit in the Al-Satar area of Khan Younis Governorate. The project aims to ensure sustainable operation of the facilities and improve families’ access to safe drinking water and water for domestic use.
The project increased daily operating hours from four to six, raising the production of water for domestic use from 40 to 60 cubic metres per day and drinking water production from 16 to 24 cubic metres per day.
This intervention responds to the growing demand for water amid extensive damage to infrastructure and severe energy shortages, particularly among displaced and returning families. It also highlights the importance of renewable energy solutions in sustaining essential water services and reducing operating costs.
